Fair Housing Rights

What is Housing Discrimination?

In Connecticut is it illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing and in the provision of housing related services due to a person’s:

  • Race
  • Disability (mental or physical)
  • Color
  • Legal source of income (e.g. use of Section 8 or the Security Deposit Guarantee)
  • National origin
  • Sex (gender)
  • Ancestry
  • Religion
  • Children or family status
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity or expression
  • Marital status
  • Age (except minors)

The law creates certain exemptions for smaller properties. If you are considering making a complaint, discuss these exemptions with a fair housing attorney.
